This-That

The "This-That" Series
2023

Statement

This series utilizes an archive of everyday mobile phone images—photos that were originally captured without a specific purpose but gain new meaning when placed together. These arrangements emerge from an encounter with the vast number of images continuously produced and redefined in the digital space—where each image’s meaning shifts depending on what is seen before and after it.

Small oddities and accidental similarities among scattered moments collectively create a fluid narrative; a story of parallel realities that coexist simultaneously within our visual memory.

The combinations and proximities act as a practice of seeing again; an effort to perceive alternative realities, to break the definitive narrative of reality, and to reconsider our relationship with memory, doubt, and ways of seeing in today’s visual world.
